“Motion’s” Second Test

Well I have to say the more I stare at this photo the more impressed I am at the improvement. After the first test I know I needed to change the rig (more on that later I have some rig photos to share) and needed to work on the model AO and figure out lighting. So I went back to work. After fixing the rig and finding some great dances from Peachy Sassoon I used Clarissa Laville as my model and she gratefully dug up in her inventory some silks that where white. Now why silks and why white? Everything (hair and clothes) have to be fully flex prim because as she dances and rotates on the rig I wanted the clothes to move. Because every final image involves around 3-6 shots taken and imported into photoshop. Now each image has to be different and unique so what helps them be those things is the amount of motion the actual model does: she dances while rotating. So even though I may catch her in the same spot distance wise, chances are she isn’t in the same AO position. So basically it helps create a great original effect. Now white clothing is because I need the lights to show up on her clothing and white does this the best. I use different light combinations for the 3-6 photos so they are unique in that aspect as well. I’ll explain the rig later on when I show you the pictures.

As to improvements for the next shot. I’m not sure yet. I really do like the image on the whole but I’m still worried it isn’t getting the motion aspect of the project across. Let me know what you think about this!

So the rig… As you can see it has four levels to it. The bottom two extend out to circular platforms. The middle is just a flat circle which is used just to cover the bars underneath from the camera. And the top is the models platform. The two crossbeams on the bottom rotate the same way and the models platform rotates in the opposite direction from them. The photograph stands on the platform that is raised higher and closer to the model. This is one of the things I had to fix because in the first test shot the camera was too far away from the model. Also on each platform are ball lights which is where the blue, red, yellow, and pink glows come from. You may be asking why on earth do I just move my camera and not be on the rig. Well because i want all the shots to be original and catching her on the fly. So the camera doesn’t move it can only captures the motion coming at the photographer not create its own.

As always I still have work to do on this… and back to work :) .
